Graeme Obree

– Superman sloopte zijn wasmachine om te fietsen
– Superman demolished his washingmachine for cycling
Graeme Obree is a Scottish racing cyclist and former bicycle messenger who broke the world hour record twice, first in his tucked style and later in another riding position, the Superman style. Both positions were later banned by the UCI.

Miguel Indurain

– Als een ander wel kon janken werd zijn grijns alleen maar groter
– When an other could cry his grin only became bigger
Some people might this guy’s riding saai and boring but I really like Big Mig’s style for it looked his smile got wider as the hurtin’ got worse. And yes, he also won de Wereldtitel tijdrijden besides the five victories in la Tour de Francia.

Laurent Fignon

– Je kon dus de Tour de France op wat haartjes na verliezen

– It was possible to lose the Tour on a couple of hairs

We all remember Laurent losing the Tour but how many of you still know he was such a great person that he also won it twice!!

Lance Armstrong

– Wereldkampioen onder de leugenaars

– World Champion amongst liars

Lance was undoubtedly one of the most succesful riders in the Tour de France. But this Champion du Monde was stabbed in the back by his former team mates after they had earned good money, privileges and fame through cycling with The Boss. Sad story!

Wouter Weylandt

– Je schreeuwt maar zegt niets Je zwijgt en vertelt alles

– You scream but say nothing You keep silent and tells all

Wouter Weylandt won a stage last year in the Giro stage in Zeeland and finally prooved the critics wrong. He was a good sprinter but wasn’t selected first pick for this year’s Giro. He had to go anyway as a last minute choice and died in a crash. Pain is too much, words are too much.

Bjarne Riis

– Ik won de Tour op dikke stroop

– I won the Tour on thick syrup

This Danish cyclist was almost old and definitively average and could never win the Tour we thought, but boyyyyy were we wrong. He let his doctors wake him up 4 times a night so the heart would keep pumping. Good part about his story is that he afterwards told the world what he had done.
